Terms of Service: PDF Reader & Translator
Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the app. These Terms are a legal agreement between you and NANO SOLUTIONS ("we", "us", or "our") about your use of the PDF Reader & Translator application for Android (the "App"). The App was formerly called "Document Translator"; it was renamed with version 1.5.0. These Terms apply to version 1.5.0 of the App and later.
The App is published only for Android and is distributed only through the Google Play Store. There is no Apple or iOS version of the App. The App's package identifier is com.translate.pdf.translator.documenttranslator.
These Terms work together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how the App handles data.
If you have any questions, you can reach us at elitetranslatorapps@gmail.com.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not install or use the App, and uninstall it if you already have it.
Because the App is distributed only through the Google Play Store, your download and use of the App is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service and Google Play's usage rules.
If you are using the App on behalf of someone else, or if local law requires a minimum age or a parent's or guardian's consent to accept these Terms, you confirm that you are allowed to do so.
2. Definitions
In these Terms:
- "App" means the PDF Reader & Translator Android application published by NANO SOLUTIONS, including all of its features, tools, updates, and documentation.
- "We", "us", "our" means NANO SOLUTIONS, the developer and publisher of the App.
- "You", "your" means the person who installs or uses the App.
- "Your content" means any PDF, document, image, photo, or text that you open, create, scan, translate, merge, split, lock, unlock, print, or otherwise work with using the App.
- "Device" means the Android phone or tablet on which the App is installed.
- "On-device" means that a feature runs locally on your Device and does not send your content to us or to any server we operate.
- "Google Play" means the Google Play Store, through which the App is distributed.
3. Eligibility and age
The App is available for Android devices only, and only through Google Play. There is no iOS or Apple version of the App.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are under the age of majority in the place where you live, you may use the App only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. If you do not meet these requirements, please do not use the App.
Some features, such as personalised advertising, may have their own minimum-age rules under the policies of Google and other providers. You are responsible for using the App in a way that is lawful where you live.
4. What the App does
PDF Reader & Translator lets you read and work with PDF files and translate text on your Device. Its features include:
- PDF reading and viewing — opening and rendering PDF documents.
- PDF tools — Scan to PDF, Images to PDF, Merge, Split, Lock (password-protect), Unlock (remove a password you know), and Print.
- Document scanner — capturing pages with your camera to create a PDF.
- Translation — translating the text of PDFs, typed or pasted text, text captured with your camera, and images you choose from your gallery (selected through Android's system photo picker, which needs no photo-library permission).
- Text recognition (OCR) — reading text out of images and scanned pages.
- Automatic language detection — identifying the language of the text to be translated.
- Read-aloud — reading text aloud using the text-to-speech engine configured on your Device.
The App's user interface is available in 11 languages.
We may add, change, or remove features over time, or stop offering the App, as described in Section 15.
5. Everything runs on your device
The App has no user account and no server of its own. You do not sign in, and you do not create an account with us to use it.
PDF reading and rendering, all of the PDF tools (Scan to PDF, Images to PDF, Merge, Split, Lock, Unlock, Print), translation, text recognition (OCR), language detection, and the document scanner all run on your Device. For this the App uses on-device technology, including Google ML Kit, Android's built-in PDF renderer, and PdfBox-Android.
Because of this:
- The App does not upload, store, or read your documents, photos, or translations on any server we control.
- We never receive the content of your files.
- The files you work with stay on your Device, under your control, subject to the permissions you grant and to how Android and other apps on your Device handle them.
How the App handles data is described in our Privacy Policy (see Section 18).
6. Licence to use the App
Subject to these Terms, NANO SOLUTIONS grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and revocable licence to download and use the App on an Android device that you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, in accordance with these Terms and with Google Play's terms.
The App is licensed to you, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights, title, and interest in and to the App, including all intellectual-property rights in it. These Terms do not give you any rights in the App except the licence described here.
7. The App is free and supported by ads
The App is provided free of charge and is supported by advertising. There is nothing to buy in the current version of the App.
To keep the App free, it shows advertising delivered through Google AdMob, which may include banner ads, native ads, interstitial (full-screen) ads, and app-open ads. Advertising is delivered by third parties under their own terms; we do not control, and are not responsible for, the content of third-party advertisements.
The App no longer offers any subscription, in-app purchase, or paid upgrade, and there are no payments to us. Google Play Billing and the former "Pro" / "Become VIP" upgrade were removed in version 1.5.0.
Advertising consent
In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and anywhere else this is required, Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) shows you a consent message before ads are served, so you can make your choices about personalised advertising. You can review or change your choice at any time from the App's menu, under Privacy options.
How advertising and other data are handled is described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Legacy "Pro" purchases
Some users bought a "Pro" (ad-free) upgrade in an older version of the App, before version 1.5.0. That option no longer exists as of version 1.5.0, and the App no longer checks purchases with Google Play.
If you made such a purchase:
- You remain ad-free only on the specific Device and installation where that purchase is recorded locally.
- This ad-free status cannot be restored after you reinstall the App, clear the App's data, switch to a new phone, or factory-reset your Device, because the App no longer verifies purchases with Google Play.
- Any such past purchase was made through Google Play and is governed by Google Play's own terms and refund policy, not by these Terms. We do not process payments and cannot issue refunds for it. For any question about a past purchase, including a refund, please contact Google Play.
The "Pro" product no longer exists in the current App, and we do not offer a replacement for it.
9. Google Play and Google
The App is distributed only through the Google Play Store, and all downloads and updates happen through Google Play under Google's terms.
Google is not a party to these Terms. These Terms are between you and NANO SOLUTIONS only. Google is not responsible for the App or its content, and is not responsible for providing any support or maintenance for the App. Your use of the Google Play Store is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service, and you are responsible for complying with them.
10. Your responsibilities and promises
You are responsible for how you use the App and for the content you work with in it. By using the App, you promise that:
- You have the right to your content. You have the legal right to open, view, scan, photograph, translate, run OCR on, merge, split, lock, unlock, print, share, and otherwise handle every file, photo, or piece of text you use in the App. This includes having any permission or licence needed from the owner of that content and respecting other people's copyright, privacy, and confidentiality.
- You keep your own backups. The App works on files on your Device. You are responsible for keeping your own copies and backups of anything important. We are not responsible for files that are lost, changed, overwritten, or damaged in the course of using the App or your Device.
- You manage your Lock/Unlock passwords. As described in Section 12, passwords you set or enter are used only in memory and are never stored by the App. If you forget a password, it cannot be recovered by us.
- You use the App lawfully. You will use the App in line with these Terms and with all laws that apply to you.
11. Acceptable use and restrictions
You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in line with these Terms. You must not, and must not allow anyone else to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the App, except, and only to the extent, that applicable law expressly permits this despite this restriction;
- Copy, reproduce, redistribute, resell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense, publish, or otherwise make the App available to any third party;
- Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works based on the App;
- Block, disable, hide, skip, circumvent, or interfere with the ads shown in the App, the advertising technology or SDKs it uses, or the consent mechanism described in Section 7;
- Use the App for any unlawful, fraudulent, infringing, or harmful purpose, or to open, create, translate, or distribute content that you do not have the right to process, or to harass, harm, defraud, or deceive others;
- Remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices in the App;
- Interfere with, disrupt, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the App or any systems or networks it relies on, or introduce malware or other harmful code;
- Use automated means to misuse the App or the ads it serves; or
- Use the App in any way that breaches these Terms, the Google Play Terms of Service, the terms of the third-party services described in Section 17, or any applicable law or regulation.
12. PDF passwords (Lock and Unlock)
When you use Lock PDF to protect a file with a password, or Unlock PDF to open a file whose password you already know, that password is used only in memory to perform the operation. The App does not store your passwords.
Because the App does not store them, a forgotten password cannot be recovered by us. We have no access to your passwords or to the contents of your files. If you lock a PDF and forget the password, we cannot open it or reset it for you, and the file may become permanently inaccessible. Please keep a safe record of any password you set.
13. Translations and automatic processing — use them with care
Translations in the App are produced automatically, on your Device, using machine translation (Google ML Kit). Likewise, text recognition (OCR) and language detection are automated.
Automated results may be inaccurate or incomplete, and may be unsuitable for your purpose. They are provided "as is", with no promise of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
Do not rely on the App's translations or other automated output for legal, medical, financial, or safety-critical decisions without having them checked by a qualified human translator or other suitable professional. You are responsible for reviewing results before you rely on or act on them.
14. Permissions
The App requests only the permissions it needs:
- Camera — used only for the camera-translation screen (capturing text with your camera to translate it).
- Notifications — requested once; the App does not currently send notifications.
- Internet — used to load advertising and the related services described in these Terms.
- Advertising ID — used for advertising, subject to your consent choices where that applies.
The in-app document scanner is provided by Google Play services, which runs the camera inside its own process; it does not rely on the App's Camera permission. Images you select from your gallery are chosen through Android's system photo picker, which needs no photo-library permission.
The App does not request all-files access, photo-library access, location, contacts, microphone, or account access. You can manage permissions at any time in your Device's Android settings; some features may not work if a required permission is turned off.
15. Updates and changes to the App
We may release updates to the App from time to time, for example to add or change features, fix problems, or keep the App compatible and secure, and we may add, change, or remove features over time. We are not obliged to keep providing the App or any particular feature. Updates are distributed through Google Play, and your Device's settings control how updates are installed. Some updates may be needed for the App to keep working properly.
16. Intellectual property and open-source components
The App, including its name, design, features, text, graphics, logos, and software (other than your content and the third-party components described below), is owned by NANO SOLUTIONS or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership in the App to you.
Your content stays yours. You keep all rights in your own files, photos, and text. Because the App processes your content on your Device and does not send it to us, we do not claim any rights in it and do not receive a copy of it.
Open-source components. The App includes third-party open-source components that run on your Device, including PdfBox-Android (licensed under the Apache License 2.0), AndroidX and CameraX (from Google), an image-cropping library, and Gson. These components remain the property of their respective owners and are provided under their own licences, which continue to apply to those components. Where an open-source licence gives you rights that these Terms would otherwise limit, that licence governs for that component.
17. Third-party services
Some features of the App rely on, or can connect you to, services provided by third parties. These services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, not by these Terms, and we are not responsible for them. They include:
- Google services, such as AdMob, Analytics for Firebase, Crashlytics, Remote Config, the User Messaging Platform (UMP), ML Kit, and Google Play services;
- The Google Play Store, through which the App is distributed and through which any past purchase was made;
- The Android printing service, used when you print;
- The text-to-speech engine you have selected in your Android settings, used for read-aloud; and
- Any other app you choose to share a file to from within the App.
Your use of these services is at your own discretion and subject to the relevant third party's terms. Please review them where relevant.
18. Privacy
How the App handles data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
Please read it to understand what data is and is not processed. The Privacy Policy forms part of these Terms.
19. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the App and all of its features are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of harmful components, that any result (including a translation, OCR output, language detection, or a created, merged, split, locked, or unlocked file) will be accurate, complete, or fit for a particular purpose, or that defects will be corrected. You use the App at your own discretion and risk, and you are responsible for your own files and backups.
Your legal rights. Some laws, including consumer-protection laws, give you rights and guarantees that cannot be excluded. Nothing in this section removes or limits any warranty, guarantee, or right that the law gives you and that cannot legally be waived. Where such rights apply, this disclaimer applies only to the extent the law allows (see Section 22).
20. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
- NANO SOLUTIONS will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, loss of files, loss of profits, loss of goodwill, or business interruption, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the App, even if we have been advised that such damages are possible.
- Because the App is provided to you free of charge, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the App is limited accordingly, and in any event will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount, if any, you paid to us for the App (which for the current free App is normally zero) or (b) the equivalent of USD 25.
Rights that cannot be waived. These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any mandatory liability under consumer-protection law. Nothing in these Terms removes or limits your mandatory legal rights, and where the law does not allow some of the exclusions or limits above, they apply to you only to the extent permitted (see Section 22).
21. Indemnification
To the extent allowed by law, and keeping in mind that the App is a free consumer app, you agree to be responsible for, and to reimburse us for, any reasonable and direct third-party claims, losses, or costs that we suffer because you have used the App in breach of these Terms or in breach of the law, including because you did not have the right to content you used in the App. This applies only to the extent the claim, loss, or cost was actually caused by your breach; it does not apply to anything caused by us; and it does not affect your mandatory legal rights.
22. Governing law and your consumer rights
We do not impose a particular country's law or a particular court on you. These Terms are governed by, and you may bring any dispute under, the law of the country or region where you normally live, and you keep the right to bring proceedings in the courts that the law of your home country makes available to you.
Your mandatory local consumer-protection rights are fully preserved. Nothing in these Terms removes, limits, or overrides any mandatory right, protection, or remedy that the consumer-protection or other laws of the place where you live give you and that cannot be waived by agreement. Where any provision of these Terms conflicts with such a mandatory right, that right prevails, and the rest of these Terms continues to apply.
Your rights in relation to any past Google Play purchase are governed by Google Play's terms and by the consumer law that applies to you.
We would like to resolve any concern informally first. If you have a problem with the App, please contact us using the details in Section 26 before taking any other step, and we will try to help.
23. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the App or to the law. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and make the updated Terms available (for example through the App or at the location where you obtained these Terms). If a change is significant, we will take reasonable steps to bring it to your attention where this is appropriate or required.
Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree to an update, please stop using the App and uninstall it.
24. Termination
These Terms apply for as long as you use the App. You may end this agreement at any time by stopping your use of the App and uninstalling it from your Device.
We may suspend or end your licence to use the App if you materially breach these Terms or use the App unlawfully, or if we stop offering the App. Because the App runs on your Device without an account, ending these Terms mainly means that you must stop using the App and uninstall it.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including those on intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and the general terms below — will continue to apply.
25. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, make up the entire agreement between you and NANO SOLUTIONS about your use of the App, and replace any earlier terms or understandings about the App. The terms of Google Play, of the open-source components, and of the third-party services described above continue to apply to those matters.
- Severability. If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest of these Terms will stay in full effect.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right or provision of these Terms on a particular occasion, that is not a waiver of that right or provision and does not prevent us from enforcing it later.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer our rights and obligations to another party, for example as part of a business transfer, in a way that does not reduce your rights under these Terms.
